Prosecutors have summarily indicted Suga of K-pop superband BTS on charges of driving an electric scooter while intoxicated, authorities announced on Tuesday.

Late on the night of Aug. 6, Suga was found by police officers near his home in Hannam-gu, Yongsan-gu after he fell off his electric scooter while drunk and tried to get up.

His blood alcohol content was measured at 0.227 percent, well above the 0.08 percent threshold at which a driver’s license can be revoked.

The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office announced that it had summarily indicted the 31-year-old artist, whose real name is Min Yoongi. Summary prosecution, used for minor crimes, asks the court to impose a summary fine or confiscation without legal proceedings.

The Road Traffic Act prescribes one to two years in prison or a fine of 5 million won (about $370,019) to 10 million won for drunk driving with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent or more.

However, drunk driving with an alcohol content of 0.2 percent or more carries a more severe penalty of two to five years in prison or a fine of 10 to 20 million won. (Yonhap)
